The Nationals Member for Burrinjuck, Katrina Hodgkinson, announced today that work has started to improve Lachlan Valley Way from Merriganowry to Gooloogong, north of Cowra.

Katrina said the work involved clearing roadside hazards, upgrading the road surface where needed and widening the road.

"This $900,000 project will improve safety for Lachlan Valley Way road users including local, tourist and industrial traffic along this route," Katrina said.

"Within the Burrinjuck electorate, the Lachlan Valley Way is an important freight route to and from Western NSW as well as a major tourist road to Boorowa and Cowra.

"The project involves improving the standard of the road surface along a five kilometre length and removing nearby hazards, such as trees, from the roadside.

"Work is expected to be completed by late June, weather permitting."

Work will be carried out weekdays from 7am to 6pm and Saturdays from 8am to 1pm.

Traffic controllers will direct motorists through the worksite.  The speed limit will be reduced to 40km/h and some delays can be expected.
